Popular Culture Trips

Apart from the natural and historical merits offered by Rhode Island, the state also made a name for itself in popular culture with much thanks to referencing by famous Rhode Islanders. For example, Rhode Island local Seth MacFarlane set his smash animated television series “Family Guy” in the fictional town of Quahog (named after a Rhode Island symbol, the quahog shell). The famous Farrelly brothers, who gave America quirky lovable hits like “There's Something About Mary” and “Me, Myself and Irene” set at least some parts of their movies in Rhode Island. There are other instances in popular culture wherein Rhode Island was used as a setting, or even as an actual set where scenes were shot.

Not surprisingly, you can actually plan out a road trip and track down all the Rhode Island places mentioned in popular culture – in fact, trips such as these are not at all strange and uncommon to embark on. While there are no agencies as of now that handle these kinds of trips, no one can say that planning this out on your own couldn't be fun. In fact, the merit of taking a trip like this is that you get to have a much realer taste of what Rhode Island is all about – it gives you a much better feel of the people and the current culture that makes Rhode Island such a breeding ground for brilliant, creative minds.
